Jean M. Jones, 84 of McCook Lake,South Dakota, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at a local hospital.

The family will honor Jean’s life with a private service on September 5. There will be a cookout to celebrate Jean’s life at the family home on McCook Lake early that evening. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Jean Marie Jones was born December 21, 1930, the daughter of Claude Sr & Grace (Hamel) Finley. She was raised in Sioux City, Iowa, & attended Central High School. She married the late Robert (Bob) Jones on October 31, 1948.

She worked at the Sioux City Country Club and Hawkeye Club in hospitality, as a restaurant manager at Roe Dairy & an assistant store manager at The Bonanza Steak House & the family owned Riverside Dairy Queen. In her younger days, Jean enjoyed gardening & swimming & was an avid reader. She & her husband loved square dancing, playing cribbage & spending time with dear friends, the late Gene and Rosie Framke. Some of her most enjoyable moments were baking brownies & making potato salad & homemade chicken noodle soup with dumplings for her family.

Members of Jean’s family who will miss her dearly are a son, five daughters, & their families; Dennis & Robyn Jones, Kathy Jones, Vicky & Roger Merryman, Judy & Mike Fox, Wendy Jones, & Peggy & Mark Tramontina; Grandchildren & their families, Rob & Suzie Jensen, Sacha & Mike Denney, Sarah & Tim Barck, Jesse Jones, Doug & Sue Brand, Tessa & Todd Hamersma, Jeremy & Lisa Merryman, Tiffany & Rick Inlay, Brandie & Bob Florey, Michael & Jessica Fox, Mindie Bailey, Rick & Megan Carlson, Chris & Angela Carlson, & Seth Snakenberg; two brother; James(Evelyn) Finley, Robert (Dina) Finley, one sister Joan ( Bill) Cory; 35 Great-Grandchildren and her beloved cat & companion, Marley.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a brother & sister, six special grandchildren; Stephanie, Jennifer & Jana Fox, Joey Beavers, Megan Jones & Joshua Trobaugh.
