Jean Jeanette Briggs, 90, of North Sioux City, SD, died on Monday, October 19, 2015 at her residence. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Jean was born Jean Jeanette Gilbertson on October 12, 1925 in Yankton, SD. She resided in North Sioux City for over 60 years. Jean was employed at various business establishments in North Sioux, but she most enjoyed working for the State of South Dakota as a nutrition aide. She assisted families with meal planning and preparation and taught nutrition classes at the elementary schools. Jean enjoyed playing Bingo, visiting with friend and making new friends. She never met a stranger.

Survivors include her children: Judy Barrington and her husband Dennis of Fleming Island, FL; Jeanette Blonde and her husband John of Belleair Bluffs, FL; JoAnn Melbye and Mark Smith of Kings Bay, GA; and John Briggs and Angela Fatland of North Sioux City, SD; Grandchildren; Nikki Hon and her husband Derek of Athens, GA; Christopher Barrington and his wife April of Villa Rica, GA; Tim Barrington and his wife Heather of Ludowici, GA; Jeanne Pellegrino and her husband Trevor of Marietta, GA; Jonathan Bonde and his wife Adeline of Peachtree City, GA; Josh Bonde of Tempe, AZ; Randi Jo Dubois and her husband Parker of Savannah, GA; Jordan Melbye of St. Mary's, GA; and Michael Robinette and his wife Tarnisha of Scottsdale, AZ, Great-grandchildren; James Dennis Hon, Matilda Hon, Ethan Barrington, Morgan Barrington, Adalyne Pellegrino, Riley Pellegrino, Caleb Pellegrino, Ella Bonde and Whitney Robinette, plus many beloved brothers, sisters, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her husband James C. Briggs.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Siouxland in order to help others as they helped the extended Briggs family.
