Jay Baker Cosgrove Jr., 84, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 5, 2025. A private celebration of his life is pending. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Jay was born on October 15, 1940, in Los Angeles, CA to Jay Sr. and Ethelyn (Harms) Cosgrove. He graduated from Morningside high school in Inglewood, CA and went on to attend Mt. San Antonio College. He was united in marriage to Terrylee Embry on September 12, 1959, in Las Vegas and had just celebrated their 66-year wedding anniversary. The couple moved to Montana where Jay graduated from the police academy. While in Montana, he ran a ranch and worked as a deputy sheriff in Big Sky Montana. He worked briefly as a trucker in California and then they moved to Sioux City, IA in 1980 and Jay worked as a jailer. He took great pride in his yard and enjoyed gardening. He especially loved retirement and relaxing.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Terry Cosgrove; children: Laura (Tony) DeZena, Karen (Todd) Inglefield, and Steven (Amanda) Cosgrove; 7 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jan Day.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
