Obituary

Janet Irene Wagner, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother unexpectedly passed away at home on December 11th, 2023.  A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Janet will be buried next to her husband, Jerry at Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry, her parents, and her sister Sandy Combs. She is survived by her son John Wagner, his wife Amber and their four children; Ava, Liam, Zane, and Noel; daughter Jennifer Corado; her brother Raymond Geary; sisters Joann Moran, LaDonna Mcmillin, Sharon Geary and Janet’s significant other Jim Rude.

Janet Irene Geary was born January 31st, 1955, in Sioux City, IA to parents Lester and Mary Ann Geary.  She was raised alongside her brother Raymond and sisters Sandy, Sharon, Joann and LaDonna. In 1976 she married Jerry Wagner, also from Iowa. They raised two children together, Jennifer (1975) and John (1978). Jerry passed away in 1997, after a courageous battle against cancer.  Throughout his treatments, Janet was a rock—committed and always hopeful.  A husband never had a better wife.

Janet loved her family. She worked hard to support all of them, and she took great pride in their accomplishments. For many years, she worked at Mercy Health as an operator. Janet was artistic and loved to draw and sing.  She cared deeply about animals, owning many dogs over the years.  Her skills in the kitchen were legendary. An excellent cook who loved to delight her grandchildren with her baking. Janet also loved to garden, working diligently on her roses and flowers, always hoping to attract butterflies, which she loved. A devoted sister and friend whom others could depend upon.  A kind, generous soul who placed the needs of her family and friends above her own.

Janet’s enduring spirit and her capacity for love, will live on in the cherished memories of her family.
