Janel M. Cox (Preston), 65, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at a local hospital. Services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City with a visitation one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
Janel was born on December 30, 1951 in Sioux City to Harry and Nellie (Lawrey) Preston, Sr. She graduated from Riverside High School. Janel enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1971 and was a nurse stateside during the Vietnam War. She was honorably discharged in 1975.
Janel was a nurse at St. Vincent's and St. Joseph's Hospital, and worked in direct care at Mid Step Services. She also did in home health care. She also sold Tupperware. She enjoyed doing puzzles, playing card, board, and phone games. Janel loved going night fishing. Family was very important to Janel, especially her grandkids.
Survivors include her children, Jean Fairbanks, Duston DeKok, and Judy (Donald) Hare, all of Sioux City; brothers, Mike (Mary) Preston, Jeff Preston and significant other, Becky Valentine, and Joe Preston of Cherokee; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren with one on the way; three stepsons, Stanley, Terry, and Michael; and sister in laws, Kerri and Teresa.
Janel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Andy, Stuart, and Jack; and one grandchild.
