James A. "Jim" Vogel, 82, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at his residence. Services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. A visitation will be held 4-8 with family present from 6-8 and a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jim was born on April 12, 1934 in Aberdeen, Washington, the son of Frederick and Agnes Vogel. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he was married to Mary Ellen Maron on May 30, 1959. Jim worked at Sioux Muffler then at Sioux Tools until retiring in 1996. After retirement Jim made deliveries for Fisher Florist Shop and later, drove a transit bus for Sunrise Retirement.
Jim was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was currently attending St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his children, Randy (Brandi Auen) Vogel of Sioux City, Iowa, Sidney (Cindy) Vogel of Sioux City, and Fred Gay of Springfield, Nebraska; Kelley (Albert) Schoen of Sioux City and Sandra (Don) Coffey of South Sioux City, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Sandra Weber, Carol Cullen and Beverly Duncan.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Mary who died in August of 2016; children, Cory Vogel and Tammy Vogel, and a great-grandson, Josiah Vogel.
