James Lorenz “Jim” Swanson, 90 of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Graveside services were held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City.

Jim was born in Centerville, South Dakota on December 30, 1932, to Edwin and Evelyn (Bartlett) Swanson. In 1947 the family moved to Sioux City where. Jim graduated from East High School. After graduation Jim joined the Naval Reserves. Jim married Doris Ann List on June 7, 1952, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. They were married for 71 years and raised seven children.

Jim was employed at various locations around the Sioux City, Iowa area including Sioux City Stockyards, Needham Packing, and Old Home (Metz) Bakery. After retiring from Old Home, he worked at Calvary Cemetery.

Jim enjoyed traveling with his family, carving diamond willow walking sticks, and leather work. He could fix almost anything! Later in life Jim became involved in reenacting in bucksskinner rendezvous. The hightlight was being a member of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Trip with the Corp of Discovery group, making several trips up and down the Missouri River in replica keelboats.

Jim is survived by his wife Doris; children Sue (Lincoln) Hinrichs, Mike (Barb) Swanson, Annie (Walt) Peterson, Pat (Bobbi) Swanson, John (Kate) Swanson, Tracy Swanson, and Paul Swanson all of Sioux City, grandchildren; Adam, Jesse, Emily, Natalie, Katie, Joe, Erin, Josiah, Ethan, Nick, Jack, and Sydney; ten great grandchildren with one ·more on the way, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Taylor Anne Hinrichs, brother, Edwin (Fran) Swanson, sisters, Claudette King and Ila Casey.
