James Albert Sutton Jr., 72, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa died Sunday, February 13, 2022 in Correctionville, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday, February 18, 2022 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.
James was born September 7, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of James Sr. and Mary (Sirles) Sutton. He moved with his family to Tampa, Florida where he grew up and graduated. Jim entered the Army in 1969 and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1975. Jim married Cherie Mohr Mercural April 20, 2000. Together they made their home in Tampa, Florida before moving to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa in 2004. Jim worked for the United States Post Office for over 35 years, retiring in 2004. He and Cherie owned and operated One Source Cleaning.
Jim was a member of the Hawkeye Gun Club. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also was a Hawkeye fan and Vikings fan who enjoyed puzzles, fishing, golfing, and being outside tinkering, and playing with his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Cherie; three children, Traci (Ronald) McDonald, Keri Mercural Clifford and Travis (Jodi) Mercural; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Chrystian, Lily, Mackenzie, Adalyne, Ainsley and Ellie; two sisters, Bobeye (Gordon) Bird and Sue (Bob) Tabb; and a brother-in-law, Elzie Bird.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Lou Bird.
