James Mason Ronfeldt, Sr., 93 of Sioux City, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 5 pm Sunday, March 15th, at the Southern Hills Baptist Church, with Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery on Tuesday. Visitation with the family will start Sunday at 4 pm, and continue after the 5 pm service, with a light dinner served at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue.
James Mason Ronfeldt was born on November 7, 1921 in Climbing Hill, Iowa, the son of Henry and Blanche (Stoker) Ronfeldt. During 1942, Mason joined the Navy and served during WWII overseas. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Mason was united in marriage to Letha Wise on September 14, 1945. Mason worked for several years in sales, and then with the Sunshine Food Store for 20 years until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending quality time with his family. His family was his life. Mason loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and was devoted to studying the Bible. He was a wonderful man of God and a powerful witness of His love to all he met.
Mason is survived by his cherished wife of 69 years, Letha Ronfeldt; his daughter Constance “Connie” Bean of Hubbard, Nebraska; two sons, Daniel (Marcia) Ronfeldt of Smithland, James (Jayne) Ronfeldt, Jr. of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Mason was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and 2 sisters, a son-in-law, 2 granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
