James G. Lewis, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Westwood Nursing Home.
Per his wishes, Jim will be cremated and no local services will be held. Celebration of Life, burial, and military honors will be held in New Castle, Indiana at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Jim was born on February 2, 1931 in Highway, Kentucky to Willie and Albertie (Cash) Lewis. He grew up in Ridgeville, Indiana and married Phyllis Huston on May 27, 1951. Jim enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1951, retiring honorably from service as a Master Sergeant in 1971. He did a tour overseas in 1952 during the Korean War and remained stateside for the duration of the Vietnam War. Jim received a Meritorious Service Medal, among many others throughout his time in the military.
In 2008, Jim and Phyllis moved to Sioux City to be closer to family. Jim was a strong, patriotic man, who loved his country and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; children, Gary (Jeanne) Lewis of Westfield Center, OH, Susan (Paul) Rohrer of Sioux City; step-son, Christopher (Kristi) Hobbs of Murray, Kentucky; brothers, Clayton (Virginia) Lewis and Howard (Leila) Lewis; sisters, W.J. Howe and Karen (Tim) Hamilton; seven grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; three sisters; Deloris, Irene, and Wanda and one brother Crandel.
