James E. “Jim” Lane, 73 of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at a local hospital following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, April 13th at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Nea Huggins officiating. Military rites will be provided by the US Marine Corps. Visitation Thursday at the church, 5-8 pm, with the family present 6-8 pm.
James Edward Lane was born on May 25, 1938 in Winnebago, Nebraska, the son of Everett and Viola (Hoover) Lane. He graduated from Central High School in 1956 and then joined the Marine Corps.
Jim was united in marriage on December 17, 1960 to Carol Keairns. Jim worked in various occupations over the years. He was a driver for Palmer Candy during the 1960’s, worked at Old Home Bread, was a sandblaster at R.D. Winters and retired in 2005 as a salesman for Tri-Tech Sales.
Jim enjoyed fishing. He was a Little League baseball coach during the 1970’s and also a Cub Scouts leader. Jim was involved with his sons’ racing teams. His sons insisted on making him their “Crew Chief”.
Jim is survived by his wife Carol, two sons, Ken and his wife Laura of Sioux City and Roger and his wife Wanita of South Sioux City; his daughter Wendy and her husband Rick Winters of South Sioux City; his daughter in-law, Cindy Lane of Sioux City; his brothers Russell Lane and his wife Monica and Linsey Lane; his sister, Linda Sue Frink, all of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Tom Lane in 2001.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Siouxland Humane Society or Wesley United Methodist Church.
