James P. “Jimmy” Reed, 59, of Elk Point, South Dakota, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at a local hospital. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 at Riverside Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Harris officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service time. Military honors presented by the United States Air Force will be following the service.
Jimmy was born May 25, 1953 in Sioux City, the son of Virgil and Betty Lou (Tubbs) Reed. He graduated from Sioux City school in 1971. Jimmy was in the United States Air Force. He has two sons from a previous marriage, Richard and Adam. Jimmy married Tracey Carstensen on August 2, 2012 in Elk Point, South Dakota.
Jimmy worked for Dick Winters Company, painting and sandblasting for 30 years. After that he was self-employed until retirement. He loved to garden and cook, but most of all he loved his animals and rescuing animals. And he loved the family 4th of July celebration, which was always at Jimmy and Traceys.
Survivors include his wife Tracey, and the Boys, Jed, Oreo and Billy, his father Vigil of Sioux City, his two sons Richard Reed and Adam and his wife Jesse Reed, both of England, brothers; Jerry Reed and his wife Crickett of Sioux City, Wesley Reed and his significant other of Sioux City, Larry Dwyer of South Sioux City, and Tim Peterson and his wife Linda of Sioux City, sisters; Susan Furey of Connecticut, Toni Olsen of Arizona, Pam Christensen and her significant other Eric of South Sioux City, Carla and her husband Mike Swingen, of Sioux City, and Amy and her husband Randy Fletchner of Lincoln, Nebraska, and four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, his sister Lisa Meyers, and a brother Petee.
