James F. “Jim” Clark, 75, of Sioux City, died February 26, 2016 at his residence, after a battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held 10:30 am, Monday, March 7, 2016 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. A visitation will begin at 9:00 am until service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Jim was born on January 31, 1941, and lived most of his life in Morningside. He graduated from East High School in 1959, where he was a standout basketball player and also a member of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He then went to the University of Iowa, where he joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, made the Iowa Hawkeye basketball practice squad and was an honors student, graduating with a degree in Political Science in 1963.
After graduation, Jim served as a Military Intelligence officer in the United States Army. He completed a tour of duty in Viet Nam from 1965 to 1966, where he served as reconnaissance section leader attached to the 1st Infantry Division and as an advisor to an Army of South Viet Nam (ARVN) Ranger unit. He was proud of his service and his Ranger tab and remained active in veterans’ issues, supporting wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts until the month of his death.
After completing his military service he went to work with his father, Glenn Clark, at Clark Cattle Company in the Sioux City Stockyards. Jim was a fixture in the stockyards for decades, working as a cattle trader and commodities broker. In the late 60s and early 70s, Jim was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine, reaching the 32nd degree mason. He loved hunting, fishing, Scotch, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Jim leaves behind many friends who will remember him as their constant companion of winter mornings in duck blinds on the Missouri River and of summer days in boats on Ontario lakes.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lucinda “Cindy” Ebert Clark, his mother Dorothy Clark, his children Heather Dias (Louis), Brad Clark (Staci), and Erik Clark (Melinda), and seven grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Clark.
