Jack "Roller Skate Jake" McClure, 87, of Kingsley, IA, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026 surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m., with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and American Legion Nash Post 140. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.

He was born on January 11, 1939, in Sioux City to Harry and Anna McClure, Jack spent his early years in the Siouxland area, where he built the foundation for a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep love for the outdoors. Jack proudly joined the United States Navy on January 17, 1956. While stationed in Boston, he met the love of his life, Marie Gogain. The two were married in 1960 and began building their lives together.

During their first five years of marriage, they welcomed four children while living in the Massachusetts area. In 1965, Jack and Marie returned to the Siouxland area, where they grew their family with the addition of two more children. Jack dedicated 40 years of his life to working as a truck driver for Holmes Freightline, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and steady nature. But beyond his work, Jack truly lived life to the fullest.

In his younger years, he found excitement on the racetrack as a race car driver known by the nickname “Roller Skate Jake,” always proudly racing with the number 11 on his car. Jack had many passions. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, bowling, playing pool, and a good game of cribbage. He was an active member of The Gadabouts camping club and served as president of the River City Anglers from 1992 through 2003, sharing his love of fishing with countless friends and fellow anglers. Jack was also a devoted fan of the Sioux City Musketeers during the mid-1970s. After retiring from Holmes Freightline, Jack turned another passion into purpose by opening his own rod and reel repair shop, where he sold and repaired fishing equipment. Even after closing his shop, Jack continued serving his community by driving school buses for several local schools. Jack and Marie spent the last 20 years of their lives in Kingsley, where Jack became a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. One of his final honors was receiving a Quilt of Valor from the Kingsley quilt guild, a fitting tribute to his service and character.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie McClure; his parents, Harry and Anna McClure; his brothers, Richard “Dick” McClure and Robert “Bob” McClure; and his sister, Patricia “Pat” Eslick.

Jack is lovingly survived by his sister, Mildred (McClure) Tietsort; his 6 children Maryann (McClure) Galvin and her husband John of Merrill, IA. Jake McClure and his wife Sandy of Sgt Bluff, IA, James McClure of Buda, TX. Jacqueline (McClure) Mrla of Sioux City, IA. Kimberly (McClure) Greer of Sioux City, IA. And Stephanie (McClure) Larsen and her husband Todd of Beresford SD. Jack has 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 17 Nieces and Nephews, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his stories, his laughter, and the love he gave. Jack will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, outdoorsman, and friend — a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and left behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
