Iris Arlene Salmen, 69, of Lawton, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 6, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at The Warehouse, 413 Floyd Blvd., Sioux City, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Iris was born on September 22, 1956, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Stanley and Alecia (Murfield) Whealon. She graduated from North High School in 1974 and later earned her Associate of Arts degree in Arts and Sciences from Western Iowa Tech in May 1992. During her teenage years, her family settled in Sioux City, where she met Donald Salmen. The two were united in marriage on November 14, 1981, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. To this union, they were blessed with four children.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, Iris dedicated her life to her family while owning and operating Road Show Video for over 24 years—a second home to many friends and loved ones.
She was actively involved in darts, bowling, and softball through the years, often sponsoring teams through her business. Summers were spent on family vacations or relaxing on the riverbanks of Niobrara, Nebraska. Known for her love of scary movies, Iris also managed Evergreen Trailer Court, where she hosted Sioux City’s best haunted house.
Iris enjoyed the excitement of a good casino trip, often gambling with her friend Joey and daughter Sara. Her quick wit, infectious humor, and generous spirit touched everyone around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, strength, and laughter will live on through her children and grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Amanda Salmen, Chad Salmen, Nick (Kristine) Salmen, and Sara (Ryan) Lieber; her grandchildren: Siara, Gracie, Kale, Ryder, Jett, Rome, Bristol, and Luvlynn; her former husband, Donald Salmen; and her siblings: Steve Whealon, Pauletta Whealon, Sheila Wallace, and Ken Fry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Alecia Whealon; her siblings, Pam Jones and Frances Shinkle; and an infant son, Shawn Salmen.
