Howard Ellison Comstock, 73, of Sioux City, passed away on May 16, 2026. A celebration of his life is pending. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Howard was born on September 29, 1952, in Sioux City, IA. Throughout his childhood, Howard lived in several places including Phoenix, Seattle, and Sioux City, experiences that helped shape his love for people, stories, and adventure. He graduated from Riverside High School in Sioux City in 1971.

Following graduation, Howard enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War era. During his service, he was stationed in Okinawa.

On December 13, 1975, Howard married the love of his life, Candy Plantz. Together they built a life centered around family and raised their two sons in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1993, Howard and Candy moved back to Sioux City, Iowa, to be closer to family, friends, and their Midwestern roots.

Howard worked as a draftsman throughout his career, working for several companies before retiring in 2017.

Howard enjoyed life’s simple treasures. He loved thrifting and hunting for unique finds, sharing stories with family and friends, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. In his later years, he especially enjoyed telling stories from his military days and talking about his beloved pets. Whether making others laugh or sharing memories from throughout his life, Howard had a way of making people feel welcome and connected.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Candy Comstock of Sioux City; sons, Terry (Ashley) Comstock and Keith (Angela) Comstock; grandchildren Hayden Comstock (Ben Pline), McKenna Comstock (Jake Person), Brody Comstock, Gabrielle Comstock, Corey Comstock (Mabior Akuien), Kevian Hayes, Mya Comstock, Avery Comstock, and Trey Comstock; great-grandson Amani; brothers Gary (Bonnie) Comstock, Bob (Karen) Comstock, Jim (Jenny) Comstock, and Donny Comstock; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Comstock; father, Donald Comstock; and grandson, Bryson Brinkman.
