Henry Victor “Hank” Baum, age 89, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday June 28, 2014 at a local care facility.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday July 3, 2014 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City 4125 Orleans Avenue. Interment will follow with military honors at the Kingsley, Iowa cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 am until service time at the chapel.
Henry was born on a bobsled in rural Plymouth County, Iowa on December 10, 1924, the son of Harry and Nettie Baum. He spent his early years in the Kingsley area moving to the Leeds area to attend high school. While in high school he participated in many sports. Following his graduation, Hank served as a paratrooper in the United States Army, where he had 31 jumps during his career, he served in Japan and the Philippine islands.
Following his discharge, he returned to Sioux City, where he worked for two different lumber companies, he than began a long career working for Klinger Construction Company. Hank then worked for Woodbury County Community Action Agency retiring in 2003.
He is survived by his daughter Pamela Lang and her husband David of Sioux City, his companion for more than 50 years Doris Walker of Sioux City, a brother Raymond Baum of Sioux City, one granddaughter and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James Warren, two brothers Willard and Harold, and a sister Ruby.
