Helen C. Sturges, 74 of Sioux City, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 pm at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue, with the family present 6-8 pm, a Rosary at 6:30 pm, and the Vigil Service at 7 pm.
Helen was born on August 14, 1940 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of George and Bernice (Mayrose) Gengler. She graduated in 1958 from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School.
On August 2, 1958, Helen was united in marriage to Jerry Sturges in Sioux City. Helen worked as a waitress at various restaurants in the area until the late 1970's, Donnelly Marketing, and Rochester (General Motors) until it closed during the mid 1990's. Later, she worked at Sam's Club until retiring.
Helen’s joy in life was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Many memories were made from the numerous trips the family took to Colorado, California and Washington State. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Ladies’ Guild, and a bingo worker. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, reading, and watching television.
Helen is survived by her husband Jerry; 3 sons, Duane (Kenna) Sturges, Steve Sturges and Rick Sturges; 4 daughters, JoAnn Sturges, Julie Sturges, Jeri Lynn Sturges and Janice Sturges, all of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, Leo (Christine) Gengler, Jim (Charlene) Gengler, Bob (Mary Lou) Gengler, George (Barb) Gengler, all of Sioux City, and Ken (Marty) Gengler of California; 3 sisters, Carole Davis of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jeanne (John) Stewart and Anne (Chris) Hackett, both of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter in-law, Kellie Sturges, on November 16, 2014; and two siblings, Mary Hofer and Eddie Jo Gengler.
