Heidi Marie Werner was born on October 5, 1942 in Germany, the daughter of Aldolf and Elsie Werner. She was raised most of her childhood in Grossauheim, Germany and at the age of 13 she came to the US after her mother in Germany was married to Edward Carl Nielson of Hinton, Iowa.

The family moved many times within the United States as her stepfather Edward was in the Army. Heidi’s new name was Heidi Marie Nielson and she became an American Citizen in March of 1961. Heidi graduated from the Wagner High School in Wagner, South Dakota in 1961.

On June 10, 1961, Heidi was united in marriage to Eldon Earl Thompson in Wagner, South Dakota. They lived in Hinton, Sioux City, and for 5 years in Merrill. In May of 1968 they moved to Sergeant Bluff.

Heidi loved children. One special grandchild is Megan, she came before and after school each day. Heidi was very active in the Brownie Troop of Sergeant Bluff and the Cub Scouts Troop 272 for over 20 years. She also had an infant day care for almost 25 years in her home until she was diagnosed with colon cancer.

She loved painting with any medium, crafting, sewing, crocheting and cake decorating. She enjoyed gardening and took pride in the roses in her garden. Most of all she loved camping and traveling with her husband, including trips to visit her grandchildren, Chase and Amanda.

She is survived by her husband Eldon, her sons Mike (Christine) Thompson and Pat (Dawn) Thompson and her daughter, Brenda (Lonnie) Lanning, grandchildren Cris (Kelsey) Ellis, Chase (Meghan) Thompson, Amanda (Benjamin Munoz) Thompson, Austin (Marisol) Ellis, Natalie (Mike Rials) Miller, Heather Miller, Megan Thompson and 6 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her father, Aldolf Werner, mother, Elsie Nielsen, step-father, Edward Nielson, twin brother, Wolfgang Werner, granddaughter Brittany, and her beloved father and mother-in-law, Earl and Esther Thompson.
