Harry James DeMarest, 96, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at a local care facility surrounded by family. Services have been held. Waterbury Funeral Service had assisted the family.
Harry was born on August 14, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa to Henry and Mary (Wenslivitis) DeMarest. In 1946 he graduated from East High School and enlisted into the United States Navy on June 1, 1946. He was stationed in the Aleutians during World War II. On June 31, 1948, Harry received his honorable discharge from the Navy and was a Veteran in the Seabees.
When he returned home, Harry went on to attend Morningside College and University of South Dakota, where he received his Bachelor of Art Degree.
On January 30, 1949 Harry was united in marriage to Joyce McDevitt at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa, and in this union they were blessed with two children; Dan and Diane. Together they enjoyed taking their pontoon boat out to go fishing and camping.
Harry was very involved with St. Casimirs Church until its closing. He worked in Real Estate for 35yrs and was active on several Board of Directors. Through the years Harry enjoyed bowling, boating, fishing and camping. He was very well liked and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Those left to honor his memory include his children: Dan (Melinda) DeMarest and Diane (Steven) Huser; 4 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce who passed away in January, his parents, Henry and Mary DeMarest, and a granddaughter, Katie Huser.
