Harold J. Butler, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at a local care facility. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, April, 21 at Waterbury Funeral Service.
Harold was born on January 29, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Thomas and Zoe (Pacquette) Butler and attended Sioux City schools. He married Jean Eastman on October 9, 1943 in South Sioux City, NE. Harold served active duty in the United States Navy WWII, and did tours of duty to Tensing, China and North Africa. After the war, he returned to Sioux City and worked at Raskins, Floyd Valley, John Morrell and Big Armour Packing Plants for 40 years.
Harold loved hunting and fishing, and was a master duck and goose caller, calling the Missouri River his second home for almost 80 years. All who knew Harold said that he was “one of a kind,” known for his stories and great sense of humor.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Jean of 70 ½ years; daughter Sharon (Edwin) Smith of Northglen, CO, and son Denny (Doretta) Butler of Jefferson, SD, special niece Mary Ruth Young of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren: Mike (Kim) Smith of Camdenton, MO, Lynn (Greg) Wright of Brighton, CO, Stacie (Eric Bishop) Butler and Carrie Butler Wingert of Sioux City, and Nathan (Abby) Bockholt of Iowa City, IA, numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom, and sisters Pat, Lucille, Fern, Gert, and Pauline.
