Obituary
Harold Edward “Harry” Bruce, 76, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at his residence. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a celebration service to honor Harry’s life at 7 pm at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Harry was born January 9, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa to Harold F. and Mary F. (Barron) Bruce. He attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Heelan in 1952 and went to work for the city for a year and a half. Harry enlisted in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. After the Army, Harry went to Morningside College, graduating with a Bachelors Degree of Art. On September 23, 1961, Harry married Angela C. Max. They spent the first year of marriage in Denver and returned to Sioux City in 1963. Harry retired from Marion Health Center in 1997. He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion. Harry was an avid Hawkeye fan but in his last years shared his loyalty with the Cyclones in honor of his children and granddaughter. Harry also loved the Chicago Cubs, spending time with his children and grandchildren, enjoyed time traveling with his wife, and having coffee with his friends at Hy-Vee.
Survivors include his loving wife Angela, devoted sons; Dan Bruce of Ames, and Richard James Bruce of Sioux City, adoring daughters; Cathy Mitchell and her husband Don of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Kajsa Kay Wengert and her husband Mark of Ames, and beloved grandchildren; Allee and Annee Wengert, Zachary, Nick, and Brandi Mitchell, and Kelsey, Kayley, Matthew, and Emiley Bruce. Harry loved his little dog Banner too. Harry was an amazing Husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He was loved dearly by his family and will be greatly missed.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Karen Kay, and close cousin Jack Barron.
