Harlan M. Thompson, 72 of Emerson, Nebraska passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. Celebration of Harlan’s Life will be held from 2pm-7pm Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Harlan Martel Thompson was born February 20, 1948 in Hawarden, IA the son of Harold and Marcella (Voog) Thompson. He attended County grade school in Alcester, SD and graduated from Centerville, High School. In 1971 he graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD. Harlan continued his education by going to Mortuary School in Dallas, TX., graduating in 1976, he was licensed in three states. Harlan had his own Mortuary “Thompson Chapel” in Wakefield, NE., where he worked for several years. He loved his work, especially the artistry of the business; he worked for Bressler- Humlicek Funeral Homes as well as in the live stock business. Harlan also enjoyed the country and farm animals.
Harlan married Diane Sheffield on May 5, 1973. He loved talking about anything and sharing his love for the Lord.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Diane of 47 years, his children, Kirstin (Chad) Stephens, Kent (Sara), Kurt (Kristi), Kendra (Tim) Mabbitt, siblings, Merlyn, MarJean, Maynard (Teri), and eight grand children, Kaden, Konnor, Kole, Kyler, Anika, Alexis, Lani, Lynden.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
