Obituary

Grace Elizabeth Sohl (Woelber), 74, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 at her residence. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 12 at Morningside Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Pulscher officiating. A visitation will be held 6-8 pm Sunday evening at the church.
Grace was born December 8, 1936 in Boyden, Iowa, daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Stegeman) Woelber. She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Boyden on April 2, 1950. Grace graduated from Hull High School in 1954. After graduating from Augustana College, she taught elementary school in Archer, Iowa. Grace married Orval Sohl on August 9, 1957. From 1957 to 1961 she taught school in Marcus, Iowa and Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Orval and Grace moved to Sioux City in 1961 and she began teaching at Grant School. Grace left teaching to raise her four girls.
Grace touched many lives through home bound visitations, day care, teaching Sunday school, and leading Bible Studies. She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church since 1961 and enjoyed participating in the Miriam Circle at church. Grace shared her gift of cooking and hospitality with many, especially her famous chicken soup. She spent her life unselfishly giving to others, and was a very faithful servant to God.
Survivors include her husband Orval of Sioux City, her four daughters Connie Smits and her husband Travis of Sloan, Cathi Swan and her husband Larry of Sioux City, Julie Tucker and her husband Chris of Sloan, and Tracy Ford and her husband Doug of Sioux City, two brothers LeRoy Woelber and his wife Arlene of Boyden, Iowa, and Waldo Woelber and his wife Sherran of Rembrandt, Iowa, two sisters Lorraine Stueven of George, Iowa, and Delaine Prichard and her husband Phil of Davenport, Iowa, sister-in-law Marty Westphal and her husband Vern of Hull, Iowa, eleven grandchildren Trevor, Justin, and Kaylee Smits, Levi, Colby and Cora Swan, Bayley, Sydney, and Jayna Tucker, and Isabelle and Ethan Ford.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lowell Woelber, her sister-in-law Anne Woelber, brother-in-law Art Stueven, and two grandchildren Parker Ford and Sadie Swan.
