Obituary

GlennaLee Elizabeth (Eckert) Walsh, 90, of Anthon, IA, passed away surrounded by her family on January 15, 2025, at Kingsley Speciality Care.  A funeral mass will be held Monday, January 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, IA.  Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Oto, IA.  Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.

GlennaLee was born on September 11, 1934 in Oto, IA to Willerd and Muriel (Malcom) Eckert.  She graduated from the Oto Public School – Class of 1952.   She was united in marriage to John M. Walsh on April 17, 1953 in Sioux City, Ia.  GlennaLee worked as a telephone operator, head-start school bus driver, and as a CNA at the Correctionville, IA nursing home for many years before retiring.  She loved her family and enjoyed cooking for the holidays, making lots of food for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. If you walked away not full, you were in trouble.   Taking home leftovers was always mandatory.  She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, crocheting potholders, and baby blankets, gardening, her flower garden, playing cards, and the WACO (Walsh Annual Camp Out) gatherings.  She was always inviting strangers to join in the festivities.

Children- Michael (Karen) Walsh of Holstein, Iowa, daughter in law, Charlotte Walsh of Odebolt, IA, Randall (Nanci) Walsh of South Sioux City, NE, Nancy Walz of Sioux City, IA, Susan (Scott) Newton of Sioux City, IA, Matthew (Michelle) of Holstein, IA, and a Bonus Son – Charles Hertz of Sergeant Bluff, IA.

13 Grandchildren: Katherine (Timothy) Felts, Andrew Walsh, Laurie (Jay) Warren, Michelle (John) Schultz, Jordan (Nick) Haedt, Brittany (Bryant) Harms, Nicholas (Deirdre) Walsh, Shelby (Trevor) Ruffcorn, Jocelyn Walz, Rick Newton, Brian Newton, Jessie (Michael) Jepsen, Austin (Jake Laun) Walsh.

19 Great Grandchildren: Bailey Beelner, Hazel Felts, Megan Warren, Makayla Warren, Colton Warren, Kiersten Schultz, Heath Schultz, Briley Schultz, Ben Haedt, Forrest Haedt, Sloan Harms, Oaklyn Harms,

Della Walsh, Knox Walsh, Nash Walsh, Cory Ruffcorn, Juniper Ruffcorn, Lily Jepsen, and Maxwell Jepsen.

She is survived by two sisters:  Ramona Heath, and Christol Hedtke, sister – in – law Kathryn (Robert) Schwiesow and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willerd and Muriel (Malcom) Eckert, In-Laws Joseph and Mary (Casey) Walsh; husband John; sons Kevin, John and Steven; Daughter Maryanna; son-in-law Kyle Walz; sisters and brother-in-laws, Guinevere (Charles) Barcelou, Bonnie (Lynne) Behrens, WillaLou (Jack) McGarry, John Heath, Calvin Hedtke, James Walsh, Joseph (Carmelita) Walsh, Bonnie (Paul) Bird and several beloved nieces and nephews.
