Gerald “Jerry” Reed, 69 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021. Services will be held 5:00pm Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at Jim’s I29 in North Sioux City where the family welcomes all of his friends to come and celebrate Jerry.
Gerald Mitchell Reed was born on June 9, 1952 to Virgil and Betty (Tubbs) Reed in Sioux City, Ia. He married Leonetta Buck on Oct. 31, 1971 in Sioux City. Together they had 3 sons Jason, Jeramy (Kristi) and Jeff (Nichole) Reed. On a Friday the 13th in 1986 he was set up on a blind date with Karen Swenson and from that moment they were inseparable. On a summer day in 1988 they were married and spent 35 years of happiness together. With this marriage Jerry gained 2 daughters Toni and Tina Gregg that he loved as his own children. Jerry was a jack of all trades. In the earlier years of his life he worked for BN Railroad and sandblasted and painted bridges for Dick Winters. He also worked many years in construction for Gleeson as a superintendent and then retired on July 4th 2020. He continued building and creating many things with his hands throughout his life. During his life boats, bikes, snowmobiles, camping, trapping, and fishing with family and friends were among a few of his pastime entertainments. He enjoyed socializing with any and every one. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to lend a hand if you ever needed it. He lived a long life full of adventures and challenges.
Jerry is survived by his wife Karen “Crickett”; his children Jeramy (Kristi), Jeff (Nichole), Toni, and Tina; his greatest gifts… 15 grandchildren; Dalton, Tanner, Autumn, Zach, Hannah, Jacob, Kelsi, Blake, Drake, Alexis, Jason, Andrew, Joshua, Jaxson, and Jensen; 11 great grandchildren Laikyn, Christopher, Zander, Beau, Cole, Chloe, Nalani, Cylus, Sawyer and 1 more blessing on the way; siblings Susan, Larry, Toni, Pam, Carla, Amy, and Wesley.
Jerry is proceeded in death by his parents; his son Jason; and siblings Petey, Lisa, Jimmy, and Tim.
Jerry was loved by many and will be missed by all. In his last words to everyone: “We’ll see ya later!"
