Georgia A. Martin, 78 of Sioux City, formerly of Hornick, died Monday, September 18, 2017 at a local care facility. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in West Fork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm with family present from 6-8 pm and prayer service at 7 pm Friday, September 22, 2017 at the funeral home.
Georgia Ann Martin was born August 15, 1939 in Hubbard, Nebraska the daughter of Verne and Ruby (Derion) Saunders. She grew up and went to school in Kingsley, Iowa graduating in 1956 from Kingsley High School. Georgia married Roger Martin on October 25, 1956 at the First Lutheran Church. She and Roger worked on their farm together. The early 70’s she worked for Woodbury County Extension. In the late 1970’s Georgia earned her realtor license and went to work for Ron Hanna Reality, eventually working on her own. Then in the mid 1980's she worked for the US Postal Service until retiring.
Georgia loved music and it was her passion. She started playing the organ at the First Lutheran Church in Kingsley at the age of 13. Georgia was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill for the past 55 years. At St. John's, she played the organ and taught Sunday School for many years.
Georgia is survived by her two sons Bradley (Barbara) of Bellevue, NE., Brett (Mellodee) of Council Bluffs, IA., one brother Leon (Sharon) Saunders of Sioux City, one sister Marjorie (Ron) Hanna of California, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Roger.
