George “Mike” Whitmore, 67, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away April 1, 2025 at a local nursing home.  A memorial service will be held Monday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation 1 hour prior at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mike was born on April 25, 1957 in Sioux City, IA to Clarence and Delores (Olson) Whitmore.  He lived in Primghar, IA for the past 10 years before moving to South Sioux City, NE.  Mike enjoyed working on vehicles, ceramics and leather work, and went to WIT for metal work.  He was united in marriage to Barbara Calhoun, she preceded him in death.  He was self employed and would do odd jobs.  Mike loved his dog Rocky and loved helping people.  He would give you the shirt off his back.  He took care of his adopted sister, mother, step-father, and uncle.  He would go on poker runs with his siblings and help collect, as well as helped with Toys for Tots.  He would visit Friendship House several times a week and made lots of friends over several years.

Those left to honor his memory include his siblings: Clarence Whitmore Jr., Ellen (Gary) Kuehn, Vicky Whitmore, Susan (Jim) Hirschberg, and Warren (Sue) Whitmore; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; brothers: Le Roy and Allan Whitmore and Anthony Zant; and sister, Tony Jo Zant.
