George G. Clay, 72, of Sioux City, IA, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2025 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Lutheran Church. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

George was born on August 18, 1953 in Iowa City, IA to Frank Clay and Bonnie (McGinnis) Rissell. He attended schools in Sioux City and Azusa, California. After graduating from Sioux City Central High School, he proudly served in the United States Army. George retired from his long-term career as a purchasing manager at Hy-Vee.

He loved to golf with his buddies, and he was a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all, he enjoyed attending family gatherings, hosting holiday dinners, and going out to eat with family and his forever friends.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Carmen Clay, granddaughter, Adilene Cariaga; great grandsons: Aydenn, Azera, Asai and Jer’mere; stepmother, Dorothy Clay; siblings: Linda Conner, Cathie Shafer, Janice Clay, Rick (Jeanni) Clay, Ed Gurnsey, Pam Rissell, and Rollie Clay; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Gene Rissell; and siblings: Doug Gurnsey, Beth Gurnsey, and Steve Clay.
