Gene L. Linkvis, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed Friday, April 25, 2025 at the age of 93. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11:30 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Sioux City Iowa. With a luncheon following.
Gene was born on April 11, 1932 in Benton, Iowa the son of Charles Linkvis and Opal (Link) Bailey. After graduation he enlisted into the United States Army on April 14, 1954 serving in the Korean War, and in 1958 he married Marlyne Johnson. Gene received his honorable discharge on April 30, 1962. Gene then went on to college, and graduated with a Masters in Education where he went on to become an Elementary School principal for the Sioux City school system for over 35 years. Gene and his wife Marlyne started their life in Battle Creek, Iowa and then landed in Sioux City where they stayed till their death.
He has been a very active member at Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where he was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and an elder. Gene was a lifelong member of the Sioux City Abu Bekr Shriners.
Gene is survived by: his children; Kelly Hammerstrom, Leslie Bingman (her husband Phil Bingman) and Bryce Linkvis, grandchildren: Daniel Hammerstrom (his wife Donelle), Sarah Schmidt (her husband Andrew), Dustin Bingman (wife Kelsea), Kelsie Kathman, Lauren Linkvis, Quinn Linkvis, Logan Linkvis and Greyson Linkvis, great grandchildren: Michael and Hudsen Hammerstrom, Raylin and Mikaela Schmidt, Charley and Luke Kathman, Lily Callie and Cora Bingman, Dawson and Drew Hammerstrom, who will all continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest, he is also survived by: sister, Bernadine Sobotka of Diagonal, Iowa, brother, Larry Bailey of Omaha, Nebraska and a full extended family of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by: his wife, Marlyne, father, Charles, mother, Opal, stepfather, Cecil Bailey, and three siblings, Charlene Brott, Evelyn Dowell, Robert Linkvis.
