Gary McArthur, 63 of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at his residence in Sioux City.

Services 10:30 am Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to time of service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Gary was born August 21, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of William A. and Marian A. (Bennett) McArthur. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School in 1966. He enlisted and served his country proudly as an Air Traffic Controller in the 125th Air Traffic Company in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. He served two tours in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the VFW 1973.

Gary was united in marriage to Joanne “Jody” Shumansky at the Cathedral of the Epiphany on February 27, 1971 in Sioux City. He made his living as a millwright and a certified welder. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and animals. He had a “McArthur” laugh, that could cheer anyone who heard him.

Gary is survived by his wife Joanne, his mother, Marian A. McArthur of Sioux City; one brother, Mark McArthur and his wife, Susan of Las Vegas, Nevada; and one sister, Susan and her husband, Ray Haneklaus of Hawarden, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, William A. McArthur; his sister this past September, Linda M. McArthur; and his father-in-law and his mother-in-law Jack and Margie Shumansky, and numerous aunts and uncles.
