Gary Joe Hansen, 60, died on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at a Sioux City hospital with family at his bedside. Services and burial will be announced at a later date.

He was the son of Floyd and Iona Hansen of Sioux City. Gary graduated from North High School and utilized his school shop talents in welding as a lifelong career. His employment included Sioux City Brick and Tile, Sioux City Foundry, Load King, Marx Distribution, and Sabre Industries where he was a welder/fabricator.

In 1993 he married Jean Lass from Le Mars, Iowa. He was a loving husband and a kind master to his animal family-Woody, Porter, Chief, Chuck, Bufford, B.J., and Glad.

He had many interests including polishing rocks and classic cars of which he owned an Austin-Healey, an F body Camaro, and a Ford Falcon. Driving them brought him great pleasure, as did his time on the road driving loaded/empty semis. Other interests were reading and fishing with his wife and family. He was fond of family reunions and especially loved his grandma Hilda.

He is survived by his wife Jean of Sioux City; mother Iona Hansen of Sioux City; brother Duane Hansen (LoriAnn) of Sioux City; father- and mother-in-law Clifford and Doreen Lass of Norfolk, Neb.; sister-in-law Karen Kleinschmit (Richard) of Wausa, Neb.; nephews Andrew Hansen of Sioux City, and Ryan Kleinschmit of Wausa; nieces Kendra and Emily Kleinschmit of Wausa; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Floyd Hansen.
