Obituary
Garry M. Nelson, 60 of Sioux City, died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at a local hospital.
A celebration of his life will be held 5-7 pm Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Waterbury Funeral Service. Interment will be in Graceland Park Cemetery at a later date.
Garry Martin Nelson was born on May 26, 1951 in Sioux City, the son of Marvin and C. Bernice (Ruhd) Nelson. He was raised in the Salix area and grew up around Brown’s Lake. Gary graduated from Westwood High School in Sloan and later from the University of Iowa with a degree in Biology.
Gary moved to the Sioux City area in the early 1990’s. Gary enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, camping, hiking and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed motorcycling and barbecuing meals with his kids.
Gary is survived by his daughter Jodi Semonell of Omaha, Nebraska, son, Garry Nelson, Jr.; daughters Amanda Nelson and Amelia Nelson, both of Sioux City; his brother, Patrick Nelson of Sioux City; his sister Carol and her husband Fred Byers of Sloan, Iowa; and his significant other Mary, and her children, James, Sonni and Theodore, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
