Garrett W. “Buzzy” Anfinson, 59 of Sergeant Bluff passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 13, 2013 at a local hospital.
Services 10:30 am Friday at the Salix United Methodist Church with Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery, Cushing, Iowa. Visitation 4-8 pm Thursday at the church, with the family present 6-8 pm and a 7:30 pm prayer service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service. Garrett Wayne Anfinson was born on April 15, 1954 in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Aloyus and Hazel (Johnson) Anfinson. The family moved to Montana for a few years, then to Sioux City. Garrett graduated from East High School in 1973.
On July 20, 1973 Garrett was united in marriage to Vonda O’Donnell in Sioux City. They moved to Sergeant Bluff during 1982. Garrett worked for a few years with Cargill, then in November of 1976, he began working at Mid American Energy, and was currently working in the Gas Service Department.
Garrett was a gun enthusiast, enjoyed his cars, and was rated a single engine airplane pilot. He was a member of the NRA and a third generation Mason.
Garrett is survived by his wife, Vonda, two daughters, Jeaneen and her husband Kirby Eli of Dallas, Texas and Stephanie and her husband Mike Mohr, also of Dallas; five grandchildren, Gracie, Owen and Ryan Eli and Derk and Raegan Mohr; his parents, Aloyus and Hazel Anfinson of Park Rapids, Minnesota; one sister, Gina Behrendsen of Phoenix, Arizona; other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Patrick O’Donnell, Gunner O’Donnell, Mike Mohr, Kirby Eli, Duane Benson, Marty Buss, Bruce Lennon and John Grieve.
