Gail Louise Ryan, 82, of Sioux City, IA, passed away surrounded by her family on April 4, 2024, from a brief illness. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 11 at 12:00pm noon at the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple at 820 Nebraska St, Sioux City, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Gail was born on August 21, 1941, in Corpus Christi, TX to Robert and Verona (DeMond) Wallen. She graduated from Central High School in 1959 and went on to attend Iowa State University where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority and received her degree in Nutritional Science in 1963.

She was united in marriage to Willis Ryan on June 1, 1963, and they moved to Dayton, OH. In Dayton, she worked as a dietitian at Miami Valley Hospital for several years before starting her family. After they divorced in 1978, Gail moved back to Sioux City with her children. In Sioux City, Gail worked for many years as a dietitian at St. Luke’s and at NorthPark Senior Living Center. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Michele (Eric Jensen) Ryan, Santa Clara CA, Renee Heath, Sioux City IA, Michael (Karin) Ryan, Davenport IA; grandchildren: Owen, Soren and Freya Ryan-Jensen, CA, Annastasia (Jacob) Lokholm and Victoria Wynn, WA, Sadie, Aidan, and Holden Ryan, IA; one great-granddaughter, Lily Lockholm; sister, Diana (Ray) Frerichs, IL; and 5 nieces and nephews and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Anthony.
