Obituary

The Lord has called Frederick Addison Hayden home at age 70 on Nov 25th, 2015. He was at Holy Spirit nursing home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Sunnybrook Community Church with Rev. B.J. Van Kalsbeek officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm with family present Tuesday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.

Fred was born on a Sunday afternoon, Mother’s Day, May 13, 1945 to parents Mary and William Hayden in Sioux City, Iowa.

Fred lived with his parents when he was young and at age 15 decided to make his own way and found work on a farm. At age 16 he was so proud to get his driver’s license and purchased a car on the same day. He continued to work as farmer in the Kingsley-Pierson area for 25 years. He married and had 2 sons Tim & Gary.

Over the years he also worked at Corn Belt supply, FMC Chemical, Goodwill Industries and Wal-Mart.

On Jan 8th 1994, he married Verna and they spent every minute together they could. Fred enjoyed being with family and friends. He was a deer hunter and liked to fix up his John Deere tractors but was never too busy that he couldn’t enjoy a social drink down at the local pub with his farming pals.

He enjoyed playing cards with family and singing along to the music they played. He loved dogs and going to explorers baseball games.

Fred moved to Sioux City in 2003 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at age 59. He started to go to Pace, a day care facility, so he could play more cards and be in a safe environment.

He then moved to Holy Spirit and lived there for 2 ½ years. He has fought a courageous fight in his illness and never failed to say thank-you for any kindness received.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife Verna and his 2 sons Tim Hayden and Gary (Sandy) Hayden. Verna’s sons; Casey (Nicky) McKewon and Clint (Tonya) McKewon.
