Frederick E Byers, age 60, of Sloan, Iowa died suddenly on Friday June 15, 2012 at a Sioux City Hospital.

Services will be held on Tuesday June 19, 2012 at 10:30am from Community Church of Christ in Sloan with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Interment will follow in the Sloan Cemetery. Fred was born in Onawa, Iowa on January 14, 1952, the son of Clarence Earl and Helen Louise (Mitchell) Byers. He attended and graduated from Sloan Community Schools.

Fred was united in marriage with Carol Nelson on December 22, 1984 in Sloan.

Fred was a farmer for all his life, he truly enjoyed working the land. Fred also enjoyed listening on his radio to country music, traveling to Florida to escape the Iowa winters, and enjoyed and loved spending time with his family, and especially enjoyed the wonderful times he could spend with his grandchildren. Fred also was a fan of NASCAR racing.

Fred was a member of the Community Church of Christ in Sloan. He also was a longtime supporter of the Future Farmers of America.

He will be missed by his family which includes his wife Carol of Sloan, his adopted son Derek Byers of Sloan, his step-sons Jeffrey Reitan (Julie) of Whiting, Iowa, Steven Reitan (Sheila) of Manning, Iowa, his step daughters: LeeAnn Resendiz (Robert) of Rochester, Minnesota, Teresa Jans (Stan) of Dakota City, Nebraska, and Vicki Kron (Bryan) of Whiting, Iowa. Fred is also survived by his sister Susan White (Ron) of Cameron, Missouri, his fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sharon.
