Obituary

Fred E. Bennett, Jr., 74 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at a local hospital. Service will be held at a later date.

Fred was born October 2, 1946 to Adda (Parker) And Fred Bennett SR. He was one of four children. Fred spent his childhood and teenage years enjoying fishing trips with his family to Leech Lake, Minnesota and Flin Flon Lake in Manitoba Canada fishing for walleye and Northern Pike.

Fred enlisted in the Navy in 1965 and was assigned to the USS Franklin D Roosevelt CVA-42. Fred was honorably discharged in 1971. He then met Teresa LaScala and fell in love. Him and Teresa had two sons, Todd and Tony and a daughter, Lisa. Fred worked for the Chicago Northwestern, Milwaukee and Union Pacific Railroads until retirement.

Fred’s favorite hobby was fishing. He would go down to the river and throw in a line just to find peace. He had many fond memories of his fishing trips to Minnesota. He was a giver and had a very generous heart. He donated to churches in Sioux City struggling financially. Fred had a passion to help everyone especially those less fortunate. He befriended many no matter what walk of life you came from and saw value in everyone.
Fred was a man of his word. He was a good listener and friend to many. He always knew how to make his kids feel better when they called dad for help or advice with a problem.

Most importantly Fred was a Christian man who always sought the word of God faithfully reading scripture. He will be forever missed by many as his soul departs this earth to unite with our Lord Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his two sons, Todd Bennett, Tony (Ashley) Bennett, and daughter, Lisa (Bennett) Blazek, brother, Paul (Hiroko) Bennett,  two sisters, Georgia McIver, Joanie Schille, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends in his life.
