Frankie Marie Gross was born Monday, July 19, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Harold and Dena (Fox) Evans. She caught the eye of young Neil Gross in Junior High School, but they didn’t become friends until High School and have been together ever since. Neil and Frankie married April 27, 1968, in Fort Dodge. They were blessed with five children Amie, Troy, Polly, Heidi, and Katie.

In the early 1980’s Frankie and Neil moved their family from Fort Dodge to Sioux City. Shortly thereafter, they became small business owners. While Frankie always worked in a variety of ways to help provide for her family it was during her time at St. Luke’s Hospital, she realized she would miss valuable time with her children while working weekends. So, Frankie joined Neil to work at his custom cabinetry shop. As small business owners, they enjoyed working together for 26 years while being able to spend time with their children and grandchildren.

Frankie’s most important roles in life were always wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and showed great love through the simple things in life that had a profound impact on everyone she touched.  She embodied comfort, patience, kindness, peace, and unconditional love. Her faith planted amazing seeds of faith in so many through her quiet and humble demonstration of what it looks like to love Jesus. She shared her love of scripture and hymns with her children. She always kept a tidy home and made it warm and welcoming for all. She found joy in cleaning while singing hymns or favorite songs from her younger years. She made two holidays exceptionally memorable – Christmas and July 4th. She was intentional with gift-giving and greeting cards always arrived in the mail on time. Many memories were made at backyard 4th of July pool parties. Frankie loved a warm cup of coffee and a good book. She would never turn down a puzzle or a crossword and loved to play games like Scrabble and Boggle with her family around a big table. Telling stories of times past would always put the biggest smile on her face and gave everyone nearby an opportunity to see her eyes light up and to hear her sweet laugh. Her love and legacy lives on in all those who were blessed to be loved by her.

Frankie is survived by her dear husband Neil; her children Amie (Dan) Rolfes, Troy (Carol) Gross, Polly (Jeremy) Heinen, Heidi (Zhenia) Koval, Katie (Brett) Benson; grandchildren Jessica (Terry) Stuhrenberg, Jeremy (Kira) Gross, Nathan Gross, Bailey Rolfes, Kelsie Rolfes, Cambri Rolfes, Caden Rolfes, Brook Heinen, Rece Heinen, Macy Heinen, Afanasiy Koval, Mila Koval, Ty Benson, Kayla Benson; great-grandson Vincent Stuhrenberg; two more great-grandchildren are on the way; brothers Tony (Valerie) Evans, Pat Evans, Rex Evans, and Joe Evans; sisters Nancy Scully and Nellie Peterson.

Frankie was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Tom Evans, Ronnie Evans, Larry Evans, Nina Flora, Eileen Luckenbill, and Gary Evans.
