Frank James “Jim” Peters, 80, passed away on Nov. 6, 2020 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held on Sat ., Nov. 14, 2020 at 2 pm at First Evangelical Free Church, 401 Ninth St., Sioux City, 51101, www.firstevangelicalfreechurch.org . Rev. Kevin Miller will officiate. Please wear a mask. Funeral arrangements by Waterbury Funeral Services in Sergeant Bluff.
Though known as “Spider Man” to local school children, Jim’s most important roles were husband, Dad and Grandpa. In recent years, Jim cared for Chilean rose tarantulas named “Rosie,” and showed Rosie in classrooms to teach and entertain children.
Jim was born in Sioux City, Iowa on Dec. 11, 1939 to Segred C. (Fredrickson) and Frank E. Peters. He had two brothers. He was a 1958 Central High School graduate. After graduation, he enlisted and served two years in the Navy. Except for six mere miles, Jim sailed around the world on a destroyer. Post-military, Jim attended Sioux City Technical School (WIT), then worked 46 years as a First Class Electronic Technician at Sioux Valley Radio and RACOM.
He met June L. Davis and they married Feb. 14, 1962, and have two daughters and one son. The family made good memories on camping trips, and enjoyed playing cards.
Jim enjoyed fishing, photography and tinkering on cars and computers, plus playing cards at the senior center.
Jim is survived by June, his wife of 58 years; children, Karen (Norm) Styers, and Christine (John) Riedesel, and son, David Peters; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Tom (Marlene) Peters and Ted (Diane) Peters and many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and half-siblings, Harold, Don, George and Meredith Peters.
