Florence A. Riffey, 85 of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at a local care facility.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Friday, November 20, 2015 at the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene, 4800 Stone Avenue with Rev. Jonathan Young officiating. Burial will be at Ponca Cemetery in Ponca, Nebraska. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm Thursday, and the Prayer Service at 7 pm, November 19, 2015 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff, 400 4th Street.

Florence was born January 13, 1930 in Winnebago, Nebraska the daughter of Clifford and Minnie (Berg) Underwood. She married Sam Riffey February 8, 1946 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They lived in California and Wyoming during Sam’s military service. Later they lived in Dakota City for a little while before settling in Sioux City around 1957.

Florence was a Sunday School Teacher, Church Mission President, Trusted Prayer Warrior, Recipient of Distinguished Award (given to her by the church), was an avid holiday baker, loved to garden, and a member of the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her son Gary Riffey of Sioux City, two daughters; Victoria Work of Oxford, Wisconsin, Debra Evans of Sioux City, one brother Darrell Underwood of Cherokee, Iowa, one sister Jean Barclay of Sioux City, four grandchildren David Work, Donovan Work, Joey O’Meara, Paul Riffey and two great grandchildren Blake Hoxsie, Chloe Case.

Florence is preceded in death by her parents; husband Sam on November 2, 1997, three brothers; Norman Underwood, Melvin Underwood, Winfred Underwood, all of Sioux City, one sister; Viola Carver of Sioux City, two son-in-laws, Bill Work in 2000 and Dale Evans in 2003.
