Obituary

Fidel Estrada-Avila, 88, of Sioux City, IA, passed away August 21, 2024, surrounded by his family.  Services are pending with Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Fidel was born on December 27, 1935 in Guanajuato, Mexico to Telésforo Estrada and Jovita Avila.  He moved to California where he met his significant other. Later relocating to Sioux City, Iowa.  Fidel worked as a laborer at various places, his last being for Tur-Pak Foods before retiring.  He enjoyed teaching his grandkids how to fish with a bottle and fishing line, how to shave  and how to cut the grass. He loved taking naps in his cars, sitting in the sun, singing, Reloj detén tu Camino (his mother’s favorite song)and telling stories with his globe about current events.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren discussing geography and American History. Another of his favorite pass times would be to sit and count his dollar bills. If you were lucky he may have given you a $5 because he didn’t have anymore money. Fidel will be remembered wearing a dress shirt with suspenders, a pen and notebook with soccer scores in it. As well as giving everyone a nickname as a term of endearment, and for knowing how to get from one state to another without looking at a map. As we all begin to miss him.  Let us take a minute to remember how much he loved his tortillas, salt and jalapenos but, above all he loved each and everyone of you.

Those left to honor his memory include his life partner, his children, grand children, and great-grand children.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
