Fern E. Norris, 92, of Homer, NE passed away on April 5, 2024.  Fern’s ashes will be interred at a later date by her family in Omaha Valley Cemetery, near Homer.  Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Fern was born in Winnebago, NE on July 8, 1931, the daughter of Myron and Mabel (Collins) Tompkins.  She married Jay Norris on December 10, 1948, in the Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, IA.  They lived on a farm west of Winnebago, NE and raised 5 children, until moving to Homer, NE in 1999.

Fern received her Master of Science in Education degree from Wayne State College and was employed at the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska as a Social Worker before retiring.

Survivors include her son, R.J. (Sheri) Norris and daughter, Jan (Robert) Stansberry,11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Norris; her sons, Wade Norris and Jeff Norris; her daughter, Jayne Frigge; a granddaughter, Nicki Leedom and a grandson, Wesley Rooney.
