Obituary

Emilie J. Lofland, 81, passed peacefully and returned home on February 3, 2021. Visitation and services will be February 5 th at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sioux City, Iowa.  The family will be present from 4:00–7:00 p.m. with prayer service at 7:00.  Interment will be done at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery.

She was born in Pender, Nebraska, to Thomas and Dora (Hinrich) Murray on September 12, 1939.  Emilie attended local elementary school in Emerson, Nebraska and Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City, Iowa. She worked several jobs including Zenith Wincharger and Dynatech. She was a long-time housekeeper for several prominent Sioux City families, which became extended families.  Before retirement at the young age of 76, she was the ‘hostess of the mostest’ for the CNOS MRI department for many years.

Family was something that brought great joy into her life and she was a compassionate caregiver with a hidden strength that was an inspiration to many.  She instilled a strong sense of family in her children and at times, many nieces, nephews, and a few neighborhood kids that needed guidance.  Her children’s failures and triumphs were also hers; she was the family matriarch and took great pride mentoring and shaping them into successful adults. As her family grew into their own lives, she became more involved in her St. Boniface Church parish. She became a driving force behind the annual Spring and Fall dinners, the Women’s Salad Luncheons, served on the Rosary Society Finance Committee, and as a Eucharist Minister.  She was always an avid and supportive spectator at her grandchildren’s various sporting events and school activities. She loved road trips, took great delight in her adventures and dinners with her dear friends, and Sunday Fundays with her daughters held a special place in her heart. She was a caring and giving soul that will be missed by all and met her passing with as much grace and dignity as she lived her life.  In the end, her body spent, her heart and soul would not concede as easy; her faith ultimately guided and gave strength through her last breath. She will be forever in her family’s hearts and watching over them from above.

She is survived by her children Michael (Amy) Hogan, Marty (Carolyn) Hogan, Michele Feauto (Tim Montagne), Missi (Todd) Roberts, Monty (Maya) Hogan, and Mindy Hogan (Lee Reed); many adored grandchildren and great grandchildren;  one brother, Jerry Murray, one sister, Pat (Arv) Jacobsma, nieces & nephews and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by husbands John Hogan Jr., Kenneth Lammert, and Roland Lofland; sisters Joanne Albrecht, Barbara Lofland and Kathryn Hooper, and two infant brothers, Jimmy and Johnny Murray.
