Obituary

Elvina Cecelia Wedmore, age 87, of Lawton, Iowa passed away on Saturday July 26, 2014 at her residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday July 30, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father Armand Bertrand officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 pm with the family present 6-8 pm and a Vigil service held at 7:00 pm at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City 4125 Orleans Avenue. Elvina was born in Hartington, Nebraska on June 14, 1927, the daughter of Emil and Geneva (Burns) Johns. Shortly following her birth the family moved to Jackson, Nebraska. The family moved to Lawton, Iowa when Elvina was age 10, then moved to Sioux City when she was 16.

She was united in marriage with Darrell D Wedmore on September 14, 1946 in Sioux City. Darrell preceded her in death on January 15, 1989 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

During her early married life, she worked at Palmer Candy Company, Cudahay Packing Company and Swift Packing Company. She became a stay at home mother when her first child was born.

Elvina was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and a former member of The Pairs and Squares Square Dancing Club for more than 15 years. She enjoyed dancing , playing BINGO, and always having her coffee pot on to serve to all who stopped by her home. She was very well liked by all who knew her.

Her life will always be remembered by her family which includes her companion for the past 8 years Bill Utter, her sons: Dennie Wedmore and his wife Cathy of Lawton, and Jerry Wedmore and his wife Teresa of Lawton, and her daughter Janice Shupe and her husband David of Lawton. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Susan Hanson, Chris Wedmore, Candace Schmidt, and Joshua Wedmore, great-grandchildren: Jordan Wedmore, Alex and Will Hanson, Kalynn and Coltyn Wedmore, and Elijah Schmidt.

Elvina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell, one brother Raymond Johns, and three sisters: Veronica Steinseld, Elsie Patterson, and Helen Wegner.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Hospice of Siouxland for the excellent care that Elvina received during her final illness.
