Elaine F. Deirup, 87 of Sergeant Bluff, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Sunrise Health Center in Sioux City.
Services will be held 10:30 am Monday, March 20th, at the Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 4-8 pm at the church, with the family present 5-8 pm. There will be an Eastern Star Service, Daughters of the Nile and a Prayer Service which starts at 7 pm.
Elaine was born on January 15, 1930 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Ruth (Carlson) Larsen. She graduated from the Akron High School, then attended Morningside College and the Edwards Business Institute. On February 27, 1955 Elaine was united in marriage to John E. Deirup in Akron. Elaine was employed in the Records Department at the Sioux City Police Department, working there 13 years and retired in 1994.
Elaine was a 40 year member of the Morningside Rose Croix Chapter #502, Eastern Star and a 27 year member of the Hathor Temple No. 38 of the Daughters of the Nile. She was also an active member of the Community United Methodist Church and its Women’s Circle and various other committees. Elaine was a longtime member of the Sergeant Bluff American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society.
Elaine is survived by her son Craig Deirup and his significant other, Cheryl Harrington of Sioux City; her daughter, Cindy and her husband Steve Jennings of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Matt Nielsen and his wife Erin, Tiffany Nielsen and her significant other, Jason Merritt, and Stephany and her husband Jeff Ireland; her great-grandchildren, Hunter John Deirup Nielsen, twins Samantha and Elizabeth Ireland, all of Des Moines; several step-grandchildren and great and great-great grandchildren, her sister, Elsie Wetzeler of Spirit Lake, Iowa, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband John in 2012, one sister, June Belshe and one brother, Cyril Larsen.
