Edwin Niemeyer, 80, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Saturday July 29, 2023 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City 4125 Orleans Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa. A Visitation will be held one hour prior.
Ed was born May 15th, 1943 to Oepke and Henrietta (Zomermaand) Niemeyer on the family farm near Inwood, Iowa. He grew up on the farm and graduated in 1961 from West Lyon High School. Ed then attended 2 years of college at Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa. He was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He owned a feed mill in Rock Valley, Iowa before owning a trucking company with his brother Gerrit Niemeyer for a while. Ed ran Midwest Trucking Company then All Area Transit for 45 years before retiring in 2005.
Ed met Marilyn DeBruin in Rock Valley, Iowa. They married June 12, 1972 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They had just celebrated their 51st anniversary. They first moved to Sioux City, Iowa then lived on a farm near Eagan, South Dakota before moving back to Sioux City, settling and raising their family in Leeds.
Ed enjoyed using his spare time going to auctions, collecting coins, and antique cars, having coffee and visiting with his many friends. He loved spending time with his family especially his kids and grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children Misti (Tom) Merrill, Eddie (Alicia) Niemeyer, Gene Niemeyer, and Annette (Tony) Roman; grandchildren Jaxson, Cameren, Loren, Austin (Tom), and Dima; brothers Harold (Lorraine) Niemeyer, and Gerrit (Pat) Niemeyer.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; his sons Dean Niemeyer and Mark Robbins; his brother Bernie Niemeyer; and his sister JoAnn Jacobsma.
