Earle E. "Red" Volkert, Jr. 81, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at his residence. Services will be held 11:00 am, Monday, August 10, 2015 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. with Rev. Joe Zimmerman officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Red was born on December 31, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Earle and Florence (Schau) Volkert, Sr., and graduated from Onawa High School. He joined the United States Air Force in January of 1954 and was honorably discharged in December of 1957. Red married Mildred C. Dawdy on Febuary 12, 1965 and to this union two children were born.
Red worked at Sioux City Swift and Company packing plant for 30 years and retired from Northwest Iowa Pork packing plant.
Red would often be seen at the Southern Hills HyVee having coffee with his friends. He enjoyed watching television and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Mildred, children: Kris and her husband Mike Vanarsdall of Homer, NE and Kelly Volkert and his wife Manda of Ponca, NE, two grandchildren: Hunter and Logan Volkert, one brother: Jerry Volkert of Sac City, IA.
Red was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Jacob Volkert.
