Donna L. Obermeyer, 81 of Sioux City, died Monday, June 1, 2015 at a local hospital.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 am Friday, June 5, 2015 at Church of the
Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ with Rev. Steven J. McLoud officiating. Burial will be in the Sloan Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 pm Thursday at Waterbury
Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue, with the family present 6-8 pm and the Vigil Service at 7 pm.
Donna was born on December 30, 1933 in Sioux City, the daughter of J. Lee and Helen (Healey) Hicks. She graduated from Central High School in 1952. On September 20, 1952, Donna was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Obermeyer at
St. Boniface.
During her life, she has worked for several livestock commission firms in the stockyards, various retail stores, pharmacies and as a secretary for an insurance firm in the area. She also performed worked as a certified nursing assistant and home health aid for a number of years.
Donna will always be remembered as “Grandma Choo Choo”, as she was a
railroader’s wife. She was a loving mother and grandmother. During 1984, she helped co-found the Railroad Museum with her husband Lawrence.
Donna is survived by her two sons, Larry Obermeyer of Sioux City and John Obermeyer and his wife Lori of Sergeant Bluff; one daughter, Julie and her husband Bob Campbell; five grandchildren, T.J. Obermeyer, Michael Campbell, Adam Campbell, Nichole Campbell and Kaylie Campbell; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lawrence in 1999.
Memorial donations may be made to the Siouxland Historical Railroad
Association youth education fund.
