Donna Belle Hardigan Clary, age 97 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, died peacefully in her sleep Monday, May 21, 2018 at Floyd Place Senior Living in Sergeant Bluff. Funeral Services will be 1:00pm at the Sergeant Bluff Community Methodist Church on Thursday, May 24, 2018 with Pastor Elad Shapira officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
Donna Clary was born on November 18, 1920, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Esther (Forsling) Hardigan. She was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Donna graduated from Central High School in January 1939. She married Thomas J. Clary on February 14, 1943. Mr. Clary passed away on January 25, 1988.
Donna had been employed by the T.S. Martin Store in Sioux City, by the Selective Service System during World War II, and by the Sergeant Bluff Post Office for 17 years until her retirement as officer-in-charge in 1981.
She was a member of the Sergeant Bluff Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and New Hope Circle. She also belonged to Salix Neighborhood Circle, Sewing Club, and Bridge Club. She served on the Board of Directors of the Sioux Air Base Credit Union for 11 years. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Auxiliary and the Sioux City Women’s Club.
Donna enjoyed playing bridge; reading; poetry; sewing (both for her family and for commercial projects); cooking; entertaining family, friends and relatives; and spending time with her children and grandsons. Donna was delighted to welcome her great-granddaughter in 2016.
She is survived by her children: son John (Karen) Clary of San Diego, CA; daughter Christine (Shane) Ryland of Seattle, WA; son Timothy Clary of Sergeant Bluff, IA; as well as grandson James (Cheryl) Clary of LeMars; grandson Richard Clary of Sergeant Bluff; and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Clary of LeMars. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and a sister.
